A report published in the Journal Nature Medicine suggests that non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NDAIDS) reduce the severity of postpartum breast cancers, Daily Mail reported.
.
The researchers found that in postpartum mice, ibuprofen and celecoxib treatment reduced mammary tumour size, collagen architecture, enzyme COX-2 expression, and breast tumour cell spreading into the lung.
However, the researchers feel that recommending ibuprofen to women who are stopping breast feeding is still premature.
Further, data from a second study showed that cancers diagnosed shortly after mothers have finished breast feeding tend to be more aggressive forms.
Specifically, data showed that women diagnosed with cancer within two years after giving birth had a 40 percent five-year survival rate, while women diagnosed outside the postpartum window had a 70 percent five-year survival rate.
