Pfizer’s CEO Jeffrey Kindler told the Financial Times that the drugmaker's recent merger with Wyeth allowed it to accelerate his strategy in a single “transformational” step.

 

The executive remarked that Pfizer is now less dependent on individual products, citing his overall goal “to provide a balanced, diversified but predictable and consistent source of earnings growth," and that once Lipitor (atorvastatin) goes off patent in 2011, no single product will account for more than 10 percent of revenue.

 

Kindler also expects healthcare reform in the US to be approved by the end of the year. The CEO "praised" the Senate finance committee’s latest draft bill, and stressed the importance of avoiding price controls on medicines, and supported the continuation of Medicare Part D.
