The German Ministry of Health reached a deal with

GlaxoSmithKline to reduce its existing influenza A (H1N1) order by 30 percent, from 50 million doses to 34 million doses, the drugmaker reported Tuesday.

Mechtild Ross-Luttmann, Lower Saxony’s health minister, said that “we have to accept the aversion to vaccination by many people in Germany,” adding that the country still has “enough vaccine to protect the population against a second wave of the flu.”

A spokesman for the health ministry said that the revised order is worth 283.2 million euros ($411 million).

The drugmaker confirmed that it is also in discussions with other governments about reducing H1N1 vaccine supplies, with a company spokeswoman noting that the countries included the UK, France, Spain, the Netherlands and Belgium.
