Allergan's partner, Inspire Pharmaceuticals, announced Thursday that its

experimental treatment for dry eye disease Prolacria (diquafosol) did not

meet either the primary or secondary endpoint of a late-stage study.

In the trial, 490 patients were randomised to receive either Prolacria or

placebo for six weeks and were assessed for improvements of dry eye disease. Inspire CEO Christy Shaffer said

that the company has "provided the top-line results from this trial to our partner Allergan and we will be

conducting a thorough review of the programme before determining next steps, if any."
