Pfizer reported final results from
a Phase III trial that showed that Sutent
(sunitinib) led to a more than two-fold increase in the time patients with
advanced pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors lived without their disease
progressing compared to placebo.
The data, which are scheduled to be presented at the American Society of Clinical Oncology Gastrointestinal
Cancers Symposium, come from a study that was halted in February 2009 on the recommendation of a data
monitoring committee after the primary endpoint was met. Results indicate that median progression-free
survival was 11.4 months in the 86 patients randomised to receive Sutent, versus 5.5 months for the 85
patients who received placebo.
Pfizer said it recently filed applications with regulators in the US, Europe and Canada seeking approval of
Sutent for this type of pancreatic cancer
